Training for the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT)
With a growing number of AAT students qualifying with us, more and more are progressing to further qualifications. We are keen to support employers and students with that progression and have always provided advice and guidance on where to source it. This year we have started to deliver some of these progression qualifications ourselves.
Not all students, or their employers, are looking for progression to another board based accounting qualification. For those students qualifying in accountancy practice, their post qualification experience is likely to involve a growing responsibility for dealing with all aspects of the accounts production process, culminating in the preparation of tax computations and submissions of tax returns.
To this end, we will start to deliver the ATT qualification from the Autumn of 2009 at our expanded Exeter venue.

Relevant law and accounting issues are examined within each paper.
To qualify, students need to gain credit in 4 modules - 3 compulsory and 1 elective.
Those AAT students who have taken the Business Taxation paper in their Technician level are exempt from Paper 2. Because of this, we will not be running workshops for this paper. However, we can provide access to the Business Taxation workshops of our AAT course programme. Also, because of the roles we expect our students to be undertaking, we will, initially, only offer the Papers 5 & 6 electives, not Papers 3 & 4.
The course is a mix of taught workshops and revision courses as well as distance learning and self study using course manuals, supplemented by material on our interactive online learning site Moodle. The self study and distance learning elements are key to making best use of the workshops and revision courses.
Enrolment will take place over the Summer and early Autumn with a Kick Start day in October, and exams in the following May and November. We are a bit tied to be honest, as:
- students must be registered with the ATT for 6 months before sitting their 1st exam;
- the May and November exams in each year are based on the same Finance Act. It is therefore much easier to study for exams in May & November;
- because of these things, the study manuals are not published until October each year.
- Kick Start day
- Issue of study manuals and a detailed study plan
- Marked Progress tests
- Progress monitoring - access to an online tracking system
- Tutor helpline
- Teaching workshops
- Revision courses
- Twilight pre-exam sessions to provide one to one support (by appointment)
- Mock exam, marked prior to exam sitting

If the full programme is purchased for all 3 required papers, a 10% discount will be given for full payment on enrolment, giving a reduced cost of £1305.00 excl. VAT, £1478.25 incl. VAT.
Students will also need to buy a copy of the Yellow Book and Orange Book, which we suggest is done after the kick start day. These currently cost £38.78 and £42.78 for registered students (less than half list price).
The above prices assume that the Business Tax module has been covered at AAT and is exempt. If this is not the case, there will be an additional charge for materials and attending our AAT workshops, if required.
